This pilot project explored the application of the study circle model of small group learning to the process of learning about and adopting sustainable practices in a retirement community setting.   The circle of 13 residents, staff, and trustees met 6 times in 2006 to explore their options for adopting more sustainable practices through reading assignments and interaction with guest speakers. Sessions looked at energy conservation and renewable energy, recycling and waste reduction, green purchasing, and sustainable landscaping.  The final session laid the groundwork for designing an awareness campaign to reach the residents, staff, managers, and Board of Directors of Kendal about the importance of creating more sustainable practices and facilities.
