On June 11, 2007 Sustainable Tompkins members and area partners gathered to update one another about their respective work, and to discuss ways we can work together for a more just and sustainable community. During the meeting several participants suggested that Sustainable Tompkins take the leadership in coordinating quarterly meetings specifically for groups that would benefit from sharing the progress and challenges of their projects, and that would like to assure good coordination and cross-linking of our multi-faceted programs. The first meeting of the Cayuga Sustainability Council was on October 25 and has continued to meet quarterly with staff support from Sustainable Tompkins and a rotating co-leadership model. Representatives of about 40 local sustainability organizations attend meetings.
