Poppy Singer Designs

Ithaca native Poppy Singer recently opened an online business, Poppy Singer Designs, selling organic cotton sheets printed with her signature artistic designs. The sheets are made entirely within the United States, from the certified organic cotton that is grown and used to make the fabric, to the location of where the fabric is sewn into bedding.

Waffle Frolic

The waffles at Waffle Frolic are made entirely from scratch using local and organic ingredients. Also offered is a full espresso bar, featuring Coffee Labs Roasters coffee which is Fair Trade Certified and Bird Friendly; Coffee Labs maintains an overall commitment to sustainability. Waffle Frolic offers a book exchange program for its patrons.

Copper Oven

The Copper Oven, a new addition to the Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery, opened in April, featuring wood fired pizzas crafted from local and homegrown ingredients.The Copper Oven’s organic white clay oven is fired by a local renewable timber source and the disposables used are either compostable or recyclable. In line with Mary Jane Challen and Seth Kircher’s commitment to community, the couple donates 5% of their profits to Healthy Food For All, a locally based program that reduces the cost of fresh, locally grown produce for low-income families in the region.

Panera Bread Co

Panera Bread opened on Meadow Street with a menu featuring many sustainable options, such as antibiotic-free chicken, whole grain breads, and some organic and natural ingredients. Panera Breads is actively involved in local efforts to alleviate hunger, donating all of their unsold bread and baked goods to local hunger relief organizations.

Brookton’s Market

Brookton’s Market, which had its Grand Opening in June, joined the “buy local” movement, offering local food products to shoppers in Brooktondale. The grocery features natural and organic products.

BeetNPath

PrOats is the first introduction by new Ithaca-based company BeetNPath, which has four operating tenets: Healthy, Natural & Organic, Responsible & Sustainable, and Operational Efficiency. The PrOats oatmeal product is made from organic steel-cut oats, organic flax seeds, egg whites and water. BeetNPath does its best to buy from local or regional farms; its Farm to Fork program offers a transparent system to track ingredients back to the source farm or producer.
