A workshop in November, 2005 was offered to about 75 local business and nonprofit managers to learn how to enhance their competitive edge by adding sustainable management practices to their business strategy.  Speakers and exhibitors shared information and resources on how business owners and managers can give their enterprises a “makeover” to improve economic performance and employee productivity while taking advantage of the marketing advantage of adopting sustainable management practices.  Plenary speakers talked about the global impact of waste production and management and new advances in cradle-to-cradle manufacturing based upon recycled content.  The energy session provided learning about the substantial savings available through smart power management and better building performance, and state and federal programs for making energy efficiency improvements.  The other session covered new ways to manage the flow of resources to reduce waste, increase recycling, and lower tipping fees, and the benefits of buying healthier, more environmentally responsible office and cleaning supplies.
