What if confronting the climate crisis is the best chance we’ll get to build a better world?
Sustainable Tompkins is partnering with Cinemapolis to support the October 24-30 Seal the Cracks campaign of the Finger Lakes Climate Fund by hosting the Ithaca premiere of This Changes Everything by Avi Lewis, based on Naomi Klein’s 2014 best-selling book of the same name.
Filmed over 211 shoot days in nine countries and five continents over four years, This Changes Everything is an epic attempt to re-imagine the vast challenge of climate change.
Seating is limited for the one-time screening of this film that explores how we must change our world to deal with the climate crisis. We suggest you buy your tickets in advance HERE.
We also urge you to put the finishing touches on your carbon diet by offsetting the greenhouse gas emissions resulting from your air and auto travel and building energy use through the Finger Lakes Climate Fund.
It is affordable and easy, with offsets for a roundtrip to the west coast only $20, a typical home about $12/month, and 500 miles of car travel just $4. A calculator and on-line donation form are at: http://fingerlakesclimatefund.org
People making a carbon offset donation will be invited to a reception in the Cinemapolis lobby before the film. Matching funds have been promised for donations received by October 25.
‘Seal the Cracks’ is about helping others while protecting the climate. It works by collecting voluntary carbon offsets from folks like you and then funding reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by others.
Our carbon offset fund is special in that we help local lower-income families make home energy efficiency improvements such as adding insulation and sealing air leaks. The fund has already helped 11 modest-income households reduce fossil fuel use and save thousands of dollars, as well as paying for the insulation for six cottages built for homeless men. This work not only helps those in need, it creates local jobs and works to bring every home in our community into a clean energy future.
This month we are running a campaign to raise $10,000 to help more families in need. We are almost two-thirds of the way there! We hope you will join in the campaign today and that making offsets for emissions that you cannot eliminate will become a regular part of your environmental commitment!
