ITHACA: Sustainable Tompkins is pleased to announce that our annual Signs of Sustainability reception will take place on December 5th, 2010 from 4:30-6:30pm at the Women’s Community Building, 100 W. Seneca Street, Ithaca NY. See this year’s award winners! Since 2006, staff and board members at Sustainable Tompkins have identified and honored hundreds of individuals and organizations emerging on the local scene, all doing their part to help advance community sustainability.
On December 5th, 2010, we invite you to join us as we celebrate our biggest Signs of Sustainability reception yet. Sustainable Tompkins board member Marian Brown says: “Sustainable Tompkins makes the whole community aware of the many, MANY new signs of sustainability…during this past year. We are still compiling the list, but it is astonishingly long…Were you one of those signs? Come see!”
In 2008 and 2009, we identified over 220 new sustainability initiatives in our community. 2010 promises to be our biggest celebration to-date! With such a vibrant movement blossoming, we have redesigned the celebration to accommodate the many honorees. This year’s celebration offers brief formal remarks, live entertainment, & ample time for celebrating our hard work! We’ll post all the “signs” we saw this year on the walls at the Womens’ Community Building, so you can browse them at your leisure. Liz Walker will address our honorees and share insight from her new book: “Choosing a Sustainable Future: Ideas and Inspiration from Ithaca, NY”. Lang Elliott will offer an audio/visual escape into the natural world of sight and sound and we’ll enjoy music by Dana Paul and friends. We’ll have local refreshments, and best of all, good company.
We trust you will be as gratified as we are at how vital, enlightened, and sustainable our community really is becoming! Join us to gather with your friends, and colleagues to celebrate our increasingly sustainable community! Liz Walker sums up the meaning of the event, saying: “Signs of Sustainability is a wonderful chance to learn about and to celebrate the remarkable variety of positive actions that our community is taking. Don’t miss it!”
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
