Sustainable Tompkins has developed a partnership with the Owego branch of RAFT (Residents Against Fracking Tioga) to engage with our “communergy” programs as tools for helping their community make the transition to a clean energy economy. In February, we’ll be helping them with two special events to help them make their community climate friendly and climate resilient. Our first event is a film screening and panel discussion organized through our Finger Lakes Bioneers program. Thanks to Working Films for their Reel Power minigrant giving us rights to a free screening of this series of films about climate and energy justice!
Special Community Event: When Climate Change Hits Home
Think climate change is out there, somewhere, someday? Well, it’s happening here and now, and we must prepare for it and do our best to limit further damage.
Join Owego RAFT and Sustainable Tompkins for a screening of ‘Sun Come Up‘ – a story of some of the world’s first climate refugees – and stay on for a panel discussion about how we can take responsibility for our shared future and support each other to reduce our energy use, build renewable energy sources, and prepare our communities for a very different climate. Panelists include Don Barber, Town of Caroline Supervisor, Dr. Gay Canough, owner of ETM Solarworks, Dr. Shorna Allred, Cornell Dept of Natural Resources, and Dr. Gay Nicholson, President of Sustainable Tompkins.
This free event will take place on Saturday, February 9, from 2 – 4 PM, at Owego United Methodist Church Hall, 261 Main St., Owego, NY. Refreshments will be served.
